In a world without tourists
The travel industry is struggling.
It is a hard blow for everyone in the travel industry that the countries are affected by viruses and shutdowns. For long periods during the year, tourists have not been able to come to Denmark, and this can be felt to a great extent in hotels, restaurants and everywhere else in the tourism industry.
Some businesses have been shut down and reopened later; others are shut down and do not reopen.
Gloomy times in the travel industry
This is also the situation for many Danish tourists and travelers who cannot travel the world. It is a huge challenge for the places abroad that usually live off Danish travelers. They may be forced to close. Also the Danes travel agents suffers.
Since the spring, they have paid back money that they had already spent on making trips to the Danes and to pay their employees. At the same time, it is difficult to sell new travel at a time when no one knows when we may travel again or which countries will open. It is a very difficult situation that the Danish agencies are in right now.
You can still travel - you decide
When the government and the authorities come with a call to refrain from traveling to certain countries and a call to go in 14-day quarantine when you get home, then it is just a call, and not a requirement. The model with the yellow, orange and red countries on the world map is a simplified representation of the situation, and there are lots of countries around the world that are doing just as well or better than Denmark.
If you are planning to travel into an 'orange' world, then it is up to you. If the destination is open for entry for Danes, then you can travel there. Whether you will subsequently be in home quarantine when you return is something you should talk to your employer about if you have one. If your insurance covers, you can talk to them about. If it does not, you can buy one from eg Gouda.
In many companies, it is enough to be tested negative on returning home 1-2 times for you to show up for work again. For example, if you are self-employed, it is you who decides the quarantine rules, or if you are willing to extend the holiday with quarantine at home, then this can also be a solution.
Talk to your workplace and your insurance company to find out how you are doing. And remember to follow the local rules where you want to travel.
Turn on a light at the end of the tunnel
The travel industry is struggling to keep the ship afloat and they are doing everything they can to minimize costs and tighten up where there can be tightening. In the short term, it is clear that it looks bad for the whole industry when we are advised against traveling. There is not much we can do about it. But we can do something else.
Travel agencies, airlines, hotels, tour operators, restaurants and tourist agencies need to see that there is light ahead.
There will come a day when we can once again travel out and experience our amazing world without restrictions and calls for quarantine. We do not know when the day will come, where we can pack the suitcase again, but it will come.
Dream, research and plan now
Therefore, now is the time to spend dreaming, researching and planning your upcoming travels. The travel agencies would very much like to help and they are experts in helping with travel planning. And then you have to book as soon as you can get to it.
You may have to travel first in the spring, next summer or even longer, but it's important for the travel industry to see that there's something on the other side of COVID-19. There is also nothing wrong with being in good time.
Use the agencies when you need to book travel
The Danes are really good at planning trips, and we spend a lot of time finding the right thing. We have that time now. Spend time reading, watching movies, look at pictures, hear podcasts og ask others for advice about your next trip. There is plenty to throw over. And remember to use the travel agents as well.
You can almost always cancel or cancel the trip if you run into problems, and the Danish travel agencies are covered by the Travel Guarantee Fund, which probably has Europe's best consumer protection in connection with travel.
Spread the joy of travel
In many cases, airlines have changed their terms and conditions to make it easier for you to change your ticket at a later date instead of missing out on the trip. So book a ticket to a nice place and look forward to you being able to leave again.
The joy of travel starts already when you start planning, and we all need a little joy of travel, even though we are at home right now.
Give a gift card now - book the trip later
If you do not know where you want to go, buy a gift card. Then you can always find the destination later. This also applies if you need to give gifts to someone in the near future.
A travel gift card is the perfect gift so that the travel agency can see that guests come to the store when it is open again and the recipient has something nice to look forward to. We need that.
Spend time at home getting inspired for new journeys and making plans for where you are going when we get out on the other side. Fortunately, travel dreams can not be quarantined. Good travel planning - and good travel when the time comes!
