Flachau: Summer fun in Austria is written by Jens Skovgaard Andersen.

Why Flachau?

In the middle of the mountains to the south Salzburg i Austria is the village of Flachau.

The area's many ski resorts make Flachau an attractive destination for ski enthusiasts and snowboarders, but in the summer a whole new world of experiences opens up for travelers who want a holiday with sports, nature experiences and adventure.

Active holiday or relaxing alpine idyll - it's up to you.

Flachau's English slogan is "The peak of fun", so it's not too funny - tøhø - when we say that there is a lot to experience. Read here and get to know more about the many activities Flachau has to offer.

Fun sports for the big gold medal in Flachau

If you want to experience sport, which is a bit out of the ordinary, Flachau's fun sports activities are a great place to start - and you do not have to be a super athlete to take part in the fun.

You can, for example, try 'stand up paddle', where you can both train your balance and splash loose in the water in the river with the tongue-breaking name Flachauwinkl.

If you are not a water dog, you can also get around on a segway. There are both guided tours and the opportunity to explore the landscape on your own.

Or how about throwing yourself into a game of 'mountain-carting'? First, the trip by bus goes up the mountain. Then you will be equipped with an introduction, vehicle and helmet. Then you can whiz at your own pace through the terrain over bumps, through turns and down into the green valleys.

If you have blood on your teeth for more, you can get involved in activities such as 'mountain pushing', 'zorbing', take a ride on the Lucky Flitzer slide or give the children a ride in 'mini-quads'.

On land, at sea and in the air

For the serious sports enthusiast, there is also plenty to tackle. With more than 500 kilometers bike and mountain bike trails and routes of varying difficulty, Flachau is the perfect place to jump on the two-wheeler. You can, for example, rent a mountain bike, road bike, 'fat bike' or electric bike for the purpose. Enjoy the breathtaking hills, beautiful viewpoints and green valleys on your way.

Flachau is also an obvious place to experience at sea. You can go kayaking or take part in a 'canyoning' trip. Here you walk through the green river and the gorges, where you have to climb the obstacles of unspoiled nature on your way.

How about paragliding for the ultimate adrenaline high and an unforgettable view of the Austrian Alps? The trip takes place with an experienced pilot, so you can enjoy the trip carefree while you soar down between the mountains.

A bite of Austria

With so many activities, it is easy to get a good appetite. You can have it served in traditional Austrian style at one of the many local restaurants located in the town and in huts up in the mountains. If the taste buds call more on international food classics, then it can also be done.

As you may see, there are really many cool experiences to pick up in Flachau and throughout the state Salzburg, and there are even more activities, such as parties, events throughout the year, sporting events and much more.

Just watch to get going - Flachau is waiting for you.
