The River Kwai is world famous and is one of Thailand's biggest tourist attractions due to its well-known history. The bridge over the River Kwai – known from the film of the same name – was built by prisoners of war from England, USA og Australia, when Japan occupied Thailand during World War II. You will find the bridge 150 kilometers west of Bangkok.

Travel to Northern Thailand: Culture and overwhelming nature

If you are into beautiful nature and temples, your trip should go to Northern Thailand. One of the most popular destinations in Northern Thailand is Chiang Mai, And there's good reason for that.

The city offers everything from beautiful temples to fantastic nature and delicious food markets, so you can easily spend a few days in Northern Thailand's largest city.

But Northern Thailand offers much more than Chiang Mai. For example, you can visit the unique city of Pai. The city is not very touristy, and it is definitely worth a visit if you are into magnificent nature, backpacker life and cultural experiences.

The largest amount of rainfall falls in August and September, which is also known as the 'green season', when nature is at its most lush.

Travel to Southwestern Thailand: Phuket, Krabi and more

Southwestern Thailand is probably the most popular area in the beautiful country – especially if you're looking for bounty beaches and relaxation. The coastline is long, so there are plenty of lovely places to choose from.

Closest to Bangkok is Hua Hin, which is only a three-hour drive from the capital, and you can go there by train directly from Bangkok. The beach town is particularly known for water sports, kitesurfing and golf. It is also the favorite resort of Thais and the royal family.

Your trip to Thailand can be spiced up with all kinds of activities, so you don't have to settle for lying on the beach - although of course there's nothing wrong with that part either.

Hua Hin is also an obvious destination if you are traveling to Thailand during the summer holidays, as according to statistics this is the time when the least amount of rain falls.

Further south in Thailand, there are even more popular destinations when it's bounty beaches and relaxation that draw.

Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao

The islands Koh Samui, Koh Phangan og Koh Tao are quite close to each other, and are some of the most popular islands to travel to in Thailand. There is a good reason for that, because the three islands really have a lot to offer, and they can be easily combined.

However, they are not very similar to each other, and therefore also attract very different travellers, all year round, so research thoroughly what suits your wishes.

Koh Samui is mostly for luxury and package tourism, Koh Phangan is both for parties and ultimate tranquility, and Koh Tao is Thailand's diving island.

Relaxation at Khao Lak

Khao Lak is pure idyll and relaxation. Here there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy long beautiful beaches and relax in the shade of a palm tree.

In addition to relaxation, in Khao Lak you can also dive and snorkel, and you can go on an excursion to the beautiful Khao Sok National Park.

North of Khao Lak out in it Indian Ocean you find them beautiful Surin Islands, as one of the most beautiful places in Thailand.

The islands are actually so unique that they have been made a national park under the name Mu Koh Surin. Here you will find beautiful unspoiled nature with jungle and long white sandy beaches with crystal clear water.

The popular Krabi

Krabi has gradually become one of the biggest destinations for tourists. In Krabi you will find everything your heart desires, and because the area has not yet jumped on the bandwagon, where everything is geared towards tourists, you can go there to experience the local culture, which is nice.

However, Krabi is not the place if you want to be a little alone and don't want to bump into other tourists, as it is still a very popular region.

Railay Beach is divinely beautiful and you can easily and cheaply visit it on a day trip from Krabi.

Off the coast of Krabi you will find the island Koh Jum, which almost consists of two parts; mountains and cliffs to the north and flat landscape with long beaches to the south. The island is known both as Koh Jum or Koh Phu. In fact, the two names reflect the two halves of the island, which the local population is very fond of.

To the north you can climb mountains, and to the south you can snorkel in the clear water and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the long beach.

The South West Islands: Phuket and the Bounty Islands

Phuket is the country's largest island, and many tourists go here on their trip to Thailand. The activities are countless, and you can, for example, go on an excursion to Phang Nga Bay and see the so-called 'James Bond Island' and the floating city.

You can also go south and visit Koh Racha Yai, which is just south of Phuket. Koh Racha Yai is one of the best known of the small islands, and it exudes atmosphere and idyll. The hotels are located down to the beach and mostly consist of bungalows.

Although the island is not deserted, the mood and atmosphere here can easily make you feel that you have landed in the middle of a story about Robinson Crusoe.

In Phang Nga Bay, you can also visit the Phi Phi Islands. Or how about a trip to the beautiful islands of Koh Yao Yai or Koh Yao Noi, just a short boat ride from Phuket?

Further south along the mainland coast you will find the island of Koh Ngai, known for its long white beaches. Most people go there to dive, and the kids can snorkel right from the beach here.

Koh Lipe is Thailand's southernmost island, and it is just 30 kilometers from it Malaysian Island of Langkawi. When you arrive in Koh Lipe, the first thing you will most likely encounter is Pattaya Beach.

Most tourists arrive here by boat. It is also down here in the south that Koh Lanta – another family favorite – is located. If you have the whole family traveling to Thailand, the southernmost islands are a good choice.

It's worth noting that the rainy season in southwestern Thailand varies depending on where you travel.

Hua Hin is best visited in the Danish spring, summer and autumn, while the southernmost part around Phuket and Krabi has a rainy season in the Danish summer and is therefore an obvious place to visit in the winter.

Travel to Southeast Thailand – Koh Chang and Pattaya

Southeast Thailand offers hiking, beautiful islands and culture. Yes, in fact you can get a bit of everything in this part of Thailand – from sustainable tourism on Koh Kood for party and colors in Pattaya.

Closest to Bangkok is the popular party destination Pattaya. The famous – and infamous – city is a few hours' drive south-east of Bangkok and offers life and happy days around the clock.

From Pattaya you can travel further south until you reach Rayong. Here there are fewer foreign tourists and full of beautiful beaches and plenty of opportunities for relaxation. One of the most interesting activities you will find in Rayong Floating Botanical Garden.

Here you can paddle in a kayak between water lilies and lotus flowers and go ashore on floating islands of grass, where it's like walking around on a large bouncy pillow. Along the way, you have an unobstructed view of the large bird life in particular, with herons and storks as the most striking specimens.

It is obvious to combine a trip to Rayong with a trip to the island of Koh Samet. The island offers beautiful beaches, fantastic weather and pure relaxation, and it is still somewhat of an overlooked gem in Thailand with fewer foreigners compared to many of Thailand's other islands. At the weekend, however, there are many local visitors.

If you travel even further south, you will come to Trat along the border to Cambodia. It is a good starting point for visiting the beautiful islands in this area of Thailand.

You can also visit the island during the rainy season, and at that time there are fewer tourists and lower prices. Koh Chang can even be combined with another trip Cambodia, if you want to take advantage of the opportunity when you are there anyway.

From Koh Chang you can also travel on to paradise islands such as Ko Mai Si Yai, Ko Wai and Koh Mak. On Koh Mak, on Saturdays you can become a 'garbage hero' when the local initiative Trash Hero collects trash on the beaches together with all those who volunteer.

You can also visit the beautiful island of Koh Kood, which is also called Ko Kut and Koh Kut – dear child has many names. However you spell it, it is Thailand's fifth largest island and the one closest to the border with Cambodia.

Koh Kood is one of those islands that is completely authentic and unspoiled. So much so that there is no public transport on the island, which also has its charm. You can get there via Koh Chang or from the port town of Laem Sok on the mainland.
